Holes is a novel turned into a very popular film. The novel is geared towards upper middle school and high school level students. The story focuses on main character, Stanley. Stanley is an overall good kid who is wrongly accused of stealing a pair of sneakers. As punishment for his crime Stanley is sentenced to spend the summer at a camp. The camp is actually a juvenile detention center. Unbeknownst to others, the warden at the camp is very cruel and forces the boys to dig holes all day, hence the title. While spending his time at camp Stanley makes many friends. He also discovers a curse that has been put on his family. This book is wildy popular among students and it sends a very positive message of friendship to its readers.

This book was popular before the movie! Louis Sachar is a favorite author at our school. I have two or three copies of this title and they are usually checked out.
