This is an auto-biographical book that can be used to teach younger students, grades 5-8, about the holocaust. This fits the curriculum in two ways: discussion of the holocuast and teaching auto biographies as a genre. Inge tells her story of being forced to wear the Star of David at the age of six to distinguish her religion as Judaism. She was later sent to Terazin Concentration Camp in Czechoslovakia. This book gives alarming numbers. Fifteen thousand children entered the camp, but only one hundred were liberated. Of the one thousand children that arrived with Inge only fifteen survived. There are pictures all through the book that reveal the horror of the holocaust while remaining age appropriate.
