Dona Flor is a book that tales the tell of a giant who lives in a small village in the southwest. She lets the children play in her yard and she loves to read stories. Every one in the town loves Dona Flor. One day there is a loud noise outside of the village. Every one is afraid, except Dona who vows to protect her town. She and her animals go on an adventure to discover what that great big noise actually is. This book is written for younger children in grades 2-4. You can get this book in Spanish and English translations. Dona Flor is a picture book and winner of the Pura Belpre Award. This is a great book to use in classrooms where you have many different ethinicities because it teaches tolerance and acceptance.
